Half a century of skiing in Saint Jean de Sixt

Skiing in St Jean de Sixt began in 1961. Mr. Perrard asked for permission from the town council to install a ski tow below the Mont Durand. At the same time local skiers created the ski club.
Then, in 1971 the Mont Durand ski lift was moved to the Cret, on a more spacious land and a snow cable got installed. Finally, in 1974 to deal with the growing demand, the Société d'Equipement Touristique bought a tracked vehicle and a roller.

About nordic skiing, the association of cross country skiing was created in 1981.

A route of about 12 km was created by a dozen people. The success has been immediate.
The ski club and the cross country institution were and are still two activities that generate a substantial income for the commune of Saint Jean de Sixt.

This calm and pleasant little resort is perfect for the younger and the older who want to discover a low priced skiing!
